Lady Lamb is a New Hampshire US artist whose music is an impressive blend of folk, pop and indie rock. Heres a 19 track playlist I made with songs ranging from just her and her banjo to full blown high priestess fuzz rock. Pretty talented young lady.

Sometime last year, hazy dance music from Vancouver party/production/DJ collective Mood Hut began to resonate with a wider audience. Mood Hut, which counts Cloudface, Pender Street Steppers and about a dozen other acts among its ranks, initially self-released tapes, mixes and a few vinyl EPs that displayed equal fervor for analogue house, new age and outré jazz. Their shadowy web presence, containing screeds on Vancouver city politics, hints at a febrile DIY community emerging from the cloudy Northwest.
Mood Hut began to forge connections with the global underground by hosting DJs from out of town at basement parties. Ben UFO described the cassettes he was given on a trip to Vancouver as “really strange dusty house stuff with an aesthetic leaning towards noise,” a description that could apply to productions by fellow party guest Max D. It’s fitting that Max D’s Future Times is now bringing Mood Hut to the world. -Resident Advisor

Zoë Keating (born February 2, 1972) is a Canadian-born cellist and composer based in San Francisco, California. Keating performed from 2002 to 2006 as second chair cellist in the cello rock band Rasputina. She is featured on Amanda Palmer‘s debut solo album, Who Killed Amanda Palmer. In her solo performances and recordings Keating uses live electronic sampling and repetition in order to layer the sound of her cello, creating rhythmically dense musical structures. As of 29 October 2012, Keating uses Ableton Live and SooperLooper software[1] along with Keith McMillen Instruments’ SoftStep Foot Controller.[2] Her self-produced album One Cello x 16: Natoma was four times #1 on the iTunes classical charts and “Into the Trees” spent 47 weeks on the Billboard classical chart, peaking at #7. She is the recipient of a 2009 Performing Arts grant from the Creative Capital Foundation. Wikipedia

Edward Wagner’s 4th release for his own EWA label heads in a dark and emotional direction as the Glaswegian based producer delivers his 3 latest offerings.
‘Trills For Thrills’ features poignant cello melodies underpinned by marching beats for a distinctive sound where its elements are woven from seamless harmony to deliberate division.
‘A Date With Darkness’ takes a similar line but here the strings have an ominous application. It’s a driving techno cut with a touch of EBM influence that builds into a cacophony of resonance.
‘Engima’ is the final piece with Wagner giving us more of a stripped back workout, portraying a tech house drive while still maintaining the moodiness and string-laden rudiments of the other tracks.

Ciphers EP is a rich assemblage of deep sonic excursions showing throughout a strong coexistence of organic and virtual elements. The record opens with ´Ciphers´, where a fast paced sandy groove is driving high on drones via sparking ambiances. Second track, ´Hailstones´ is basically a beat knocking its way outside, under a heavy hi-hat hail, slashed by snares and haunted by holographic spirits. On the B-side ´Lucifero´ carries a mellow but powerful mood, sounds like a morning star that gradually transforms into a supernova, is definitely the more dancefloor oriented cut of the release. Closing the vinyl, the slow-footed ´Cocytus´ is the complete opposite of its previous track, because of a cold, grave rhythm, treated like a windswept tree. Finally, the only digital tracks, ´Mantle´ and ´Displacement´ are perfectly resuming Wata Igarashi sound signature, as trippy gatherings of crafted beats joining drones and deformed soundscapes, the first is mind stressing and epic at certain stages, while the second vibrates so dreamy as it´s made of percussions and supernatural blows. -Midgar Records

ANTIQUE NAKED SOUL IS A BEATBOX-SING SOUL BAND. THEY BUILD AND LOOP BEATS LIVE ON STAGE USING ONLY THEIR VOICES BUT THEY CREATE AS MUCH SOUND AS A FULL BAND OF INSTRUMENTS. THERE ARE FOUR BEAUTIFUL SOULS IN THIS BAND: CANDICE “ANTIQUE” DAVIS, TOMMY “SOULATI” SHEPHERD, JAYME BROWN AND N’GALA MCCOY. THEY GOT TOGETHER BY ACCIDENT OR HAPPY COINCIDENCE TO PLAY ONE SHOW. LEAD SINGER ANTIQUE RECALLS, “WE HAD NO NAME, NO IDENTITY REALLY. AFTER THE SHOW, WE GOT SUCH A GREAT RESPONSE THAT WE LOOKED AT EACH OTHER AND SAID, ‘WE GOTTA KEEP DOING THIS!’. SO WE STARTED TAKING SONGS THAT I HAD RECORDED, BUT NOT RELEASED, AND TRANSLATING THEM INTO BEATBOX AND LATER, MY HUSBAND WAS JUST CASUALLY SAYING, ‘Y’ALL DO NAKED SOUL’ AND THAT IS HOW WE GOT THE NAME.” IT WAS IMPORTANT TO THEM TO HAVE A MESSAGE AND TO BE HIP-HOP PRESERVATIONISTS. SOULATI STATES, “WE KNEW THAT WE WANTED TO PRESERVE A CLASSIC HIP-HOP FLAIR THROUGH BEATBOXING AND STAY REALLY SOULFUL WITH OUR VOCALS, BUT WE ALSO FELT A DEEP CALLING TO STAY TRUE TO OAKLAND’S POLITICAL ROOTS. WE WANTED TO BE THE SOUNDTRACK OF THE STRUGGLE, THE BEAUTIFUL STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM AND EQUALITY.”

I am a refugee now
I am running like mad across a frosty green Poland
My head in a sack
And the blood in my brain screaming
“How did this happen?”
And “Where am I now?”
Who is so blue in this freeze
Who is so grey with the history
Rain dancing all on my face without mercy
And the muscles relax
And I just have to laugh
Through the loose teeth and tissue
The symphony builds under your boot
And the horns drool in harmony
Dancers all swoon
This is my bloody tune
My last gasp of the past
My thorn in the side of the violence of time
I won’t scream, I won’t writhe
I am laughing and burning alive
Like a thornbush
That grew in the hot countryside
Now the fire is high
And I am not consumed
Yes, this is the room
This is the old song from memory
This is the sound of the Jew
Who refuses to die
April 4th 1944
I recall my old address no more
I live day to day on the glossy dancefloor
Of a wide countryside full of disappeared people
I sleep in the churches
Eat grass like a goat
The calendar hangs on the wall of my memory
My name is inscribed up the sleeve of my coat
Here I am

Take this document with you
The lines that I wrote as I bled through the night
In a strange rusted land
I have ripped the page out
It is here in my hand
Here I am
Person of the book
But I have lost my page like so many others
I am left to inscribe my own name
On a torn one
We will have a new book scattered far
Across the expanses
The scrapbook of signatures scrawled
In forgotten, lost diaries
Texts to recite when time’s bloody boot
Dances and kicks in the bone of our chest
Like soft earth
And our ancient hoarse voices
Will echo in song
And resound off the curve of a high stony ceiling
The curve of the arch
From our death to our birth

Kane Ikin is an experimental musician from Melbourne. His music – equal parts narcotic and kinetic – conjures industrial landscapes in crystalline definition. Concussive rhythms surround a glistening soundstage, creating a cinematic experience for the mind akin to a modern-day Blade Runner or Akira soundtrack. Kane has delivered two outstanding works in 2016. The tense and atmospheric “Modern Pressure” (Type Recordings) and its dancefloor-minded companion “Basalt Crush” (Latency Recordings) have both received high acclaim from Boomkat, Juno Plus and Bleep, drawing comparisons to Raime, Andy Stott and Demdike-Stare. Kane’s next work, “Sensory Memory” (Echovolt Records), will be released late 2016. Resident Advisor

One of the main proponents of the current slow-mo and sultry house Revolution, Slow Hands aka Ryan Cavanagh is an organic specialist. His rich yet languid style bares all the hallmarks of the classical and compositional training he has had, whilst everything from jazz to blues to trippy electronica inform the New Yorker’s well honed production palette.  -Bandcamp

Fogh Depot is a trio from Moscow, Russia, who makes music that incorporates elements of nu jazz, hip-hop, doom jazz and live-electronic. Baritone sax, double bass, drums, samplers and a whole lot of stomp boxes and effects. Heres an 11 track Youtube playlist I put together. Click on the Youtube icon bottom right to expand it.

Vienna based producer and Affine founding member Cid Rim hitting the streets again with two original synth-drenched firecrackers. The opener „Charge“ takes you places where hybrid dance music is the boss – sophisticated chord progressions merged with versatile funk flashes and organic slices. Followed by „Kano“, a rollercoaster ride through Cid´s characteristic drum machine workouts, convoluted beat textures and on top of that a wild fusion hook. On the flipside dutch crate-digger and avant-garde jazz cognoscente Jameszoo supplies a beautifully weird rhythm breaker rework of Charge. Soundcloud

Project Pablo (Patrick Holland), is a DJ and Musician currently residing in Montreal, Canada. 2015 saw Holland’s debut full length release I Want to Believe (1080p) and his inaugural European Journey. Post-tour, South London’s Church imprint welcomed the Canadian to their roster with a solo outing via their V/A 12″ series “Church Volumes”, and a rougher collaborative record with Vancouver’s Wolfey, coined Jervis Pump Station. 2016 brought on a more comprehensive European jaunt for Holland covering 12 cities & clubs; including Copenhagen’s Jolene, London’s Corsica Studios, Vienna’s Celeste and Manchester’s Soup Kitchen. To compliment the trip, London’s Magicwire delivered Holland’s fourth 12″ to date, Priorities, on April 8th. Inspired by the depths of adult contemporary and moods and ‘tudes of his french/italian neighbourhood, the 4 cuts are aimed for the dance. This year holds further investigation of the European Continent in July and two records featuring previously heard and unheard music. RA
